One of my reasons for training as a Hypnotherapist was my daughter. I, like many women give no thought to possible problems with conception. In fact, I have three wonderful children with no problems throughout pregnancy or birth. So, when my daughter struggled to conceive, and worst still endure multiple miscarriages I felt guilty and helpless. I could never feel her pain, I could not walk in her shoes, or listen to her mind, this was her life. An anxiety ridden leap from month to month, then once pregnant day to day.
During my training as a hypnotherapist she told me they were no longer trying, they had an appointment with a fertility consultant in four months, they would try to relax and enjoy Christmas. In October of that year My beautiful grandson was born. she did not need her appointment; it went to another couple in need of help.
According to the NHS one in seven British couples struggle to conceive, and for many fertile partners, it can take up to a year to get pregnant after they start trying.
Stress and anxiety, two emotions that can prove detrimental to fertility are a normal consequence when conception does not happen easily. This can create a catch 22 situation, finding ways to keep stress hormones from causing blocks to fertility can be extremely helpful. Hypnotherapy is one such therapy that has been proven to help.
So how is Hypnotherapy helpful for those struggling to conceive?
There are all sorts of reasons why women might find it difficult to conceive, often physiological ones. But even when the physical cause of infertility is identified and treated it's still possible that psychological factors like stress and anxiety are playing a role.
What to expect from your appointments ?
Our first appointment will not be the first time we have talked. From initial contact we will arrange a convenient time to chat either 121 or over the phone; it is so important to feel comfortable with your Hypnotherapist and to ask any questions, so you know what to expect from your sessions. Building a rapport is vital for anyone seeking hypnotherapy. We will also discuss how hypnosis works and how it can help, which is important for your expectations
During our first session, we discuss the what you feel your issue/s are, your desired outcome. We will begin each therapy session by chatting about the current issues, things that may be prominent in your mind, how you can move forward or simply just be.
We will then start with some calming guided deep relaxation and breathing. When the body is relaxed, we can begin to relax the mind using creative visualisation. Ninety per cent of the information transmitted to our brain is visual and so by using guided imagery, the conscious mind can take a back seat so to speak, think its thoughts and do what it does naturally, making way for the subconscious mind to become open and receptive to positive suggestion.
